The Faith Initiative would especially like to invite congregations and educators who are partnered to serve students in our schools throughout Spartanburg County. If you are aware of ministries or congregations that work in partnership with our schools, please share this invitation with them and encourage them to come. The Faith Initiative Summit is in partnership with the Spartanburg Academic Movement’s 10th anniversary conference the day before, on October 18. If you are available, register to attend both events back-to-back! This is an opportunity to fuse our efforts to make Spartanburg a community of thriving for every one of us.

About the Faith Initiative to End Child Poverty

The Faith Initiative To End Child Poverty is a coalition of congregations working to end child poverty in Spartanburg. Our goal is to activate the gifts of the faith community in alignment with wider community efforts. Our strategy is:

  • Pastoral: Be with children and their families who are living in poverty. Research (see here and here) shows that being with one another, as God has promised to be with us, radically reduces barriers to economic mobility through connection and resource sharing. This is the heart of our work. Be with one another, today.
  • Congregational: Build a network of congregations serving children and their families who are living in poverty. Share knowledge and resources between congregations.
  • Community: Align efforts of congregations and organizations serving children and their families who are living in poverty.
  • Advocacy: Develop projects and support for gaps in community services and thinking.
  • Culture: Create a culture of connection and sharing for our mutual thriving.

To get involved, please contact our director, Scott Neely (neelysj@gmail.com).
