Spartanburg, S.C. – The Mary Black Foundation announced today that it awarded $1,126,600 in grants to 10 nonprofit organizations serving Spartanburg County.

• Boys and Girls Clubs of the Upstate was awarded $40,000 for general operating support to sustain the Chesnee Elementary After School Club.
• Chapman Cultural Center was awarded $157,000 over three years to develop and implement a professional development program for early childhood providers to integrate creativity and the arts in their classrooms.
• Habitat for Humanity of Spartanburg was awarded $7,500 to replace street lighting in the Una Habitat Neighborhood.
• Middle Tyger Community Center was awarded $675,000 over three years to support general operating support for its work in the areas of teen pregnancy prevention and early childhood development.
• Northside Development Corporation was awarded $25,000 to support a 14-week pilot program, The Northside START ME: Business Accelerator, which supports small businesses and entrepreneurs.
• Project Hope Foundation was awarded $40,000 to help renovate a 12,000+ square foot facility in downtown Spartanburg into a therapeutic clinic for children with autism.
• Spartanburg County School District Six was awarded $35,500 to purchase 45 hydroponic towers and a FarmBot to be used at the District Six greenhouse.
• St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic was awarded $40,000 for general operating support to provide healthcare to the uninsured.
• United Way of the Piedmont was awarded $15,000 to provide training for the Compassionate Schools project.
• Upstate Family Resource Center was awarded $91,000 over two years to form a partnership with PASOs, a statewide nonprofit organization, to enhance services for Latino children throughout Spartanburg County.
