Volunteer Opportunities During COVID-19

Right now many of us are spending our time differently than we were a couple of months ago. In order to practice proper social distancing and to help stop the spread of COVID-19, many people are spending more time at home. Whether you are spending more time cooking, cleaning, schooling children, or taking care of your mental health, many of us are living life differently these days.

A great way to shake up your “quarantine routine” is by spending some of the free time you have volunteering.

How Organizations are Helping Our Community

Right now many local nonprofit organizations are providing support to families in need. This includes:

  • Providing meals
  • Navigating families to financial supports
  • Providing online activities for children
  • Online tutoring
  • Plus many more!

The services and supports these organizations are providing to the members of our community are helping many people get through these uncertain and difficult times.

How You Can Help

As mentioned earlier in the post, many people may find themselves with more free time or are looking for ways to give back to our community. One of the ways we can do this is by volunteering. There are many opportunities for people to volunteer while following proper safety precautions. Some of the volunteer opportunities can even be done virtually!  Examples of volunteer opportunities include:

  • Making masks
  • Delivering meals or going grocery shopping for seniors
  • Collecting supplies for nonprofits
  • Providing online tutoring
  • Packing care kits

Many of these volunteer opportunities do not require a lot of time but offer families in need many benefits.

If you are interested in volunteering, check out The United Way of the Piedmont’s website. They have a volunteer calendar that lists many of the available volunteer opportunities as well as safety precautions for those who would like to do in-person volunteering.
