Welcoming Our New Trustees

We are excited to welcome two new members to our board of trustees.

Spartanburg native Brandi Gist has dedicated 23 years of her 26-year career to education, with a focus on supporting local students and their families. Currently serving as the CFO for Spartanburg School District 2, Brandi is deeply committed to improving outcomes for youth. Brandi joined the Foundation’s program committee in 2024 and is excited to be one of the newest members of the Foundation’s board of trustees this year. Brandi is looking forward to contributing to the Foundation’s efforts to improve the health and well-being of children and families.

I believe the Foundation’s biggest impact is its commitment to the whole family approach. By providing resources that not only benefit the children in our community but also ensure that families as a unit have access to resources through local organizations, the Foundation creates a stronger, more sustainable support system that benefits everyone.

Answering the call to serve on the board of trustees of the Mary Black Foundation was a natural fit for Andrea Moore. With over twenty-five years of experience as an attorney, much of her career has been dedicated to children’s advocacy in Spartanburg Family Court. She has served as Executive Director of a nonprofit family resource center and volunteered with various organizations supporting children and families. On a personal level, Andrea has raised resilient children through significant life changes, been a foster parent, and embraced the challenges and blessings of stepparenting and blending families.

Looking back, it feels like every step of my life, both personal and professional, has led me to the core belief that investing in the lives of children and their families improves the health, stability, and well-being of our entire community. Everything the Foundation does aligns with this conviction.
