Meet Our New Trustee: Bert Barre
We’re excited to welcome Bert Barre to the Mary Black Foundation (MBF) Board of Trustees this year. A Spartanburg native, Bert has spent most of his life in the community and brings a strong connection to both its people and its future. He currently serves as CEO of Colonial Trust Company, where he enjoys working with clients and their families. Outside of work, Bert keeps busy with his wife, Katherine, and their three children.
Joining the MBF Board is especially meaningful for Bert, whose family has deep ties to the Foundation. Mary Black was his great-great grandmother, and several generations of his family have served Mary Black Hospital or the Mary Black Foundation. He’s honored to continue that tradition and give back to a community that has given so much to his family.
Along with his professional investment experience, Bert brings a broad community perspective shaped by his service as a Trustee of the Spartanburg County Foundation.
This year, Bert is looking forward to diving into his work as a trustee through service on the Investment and Community Impact Committees. He’s particularly excited about MBF’s renewed focus on children and the opportunity to make a lasting difference across generations. When asked about the Foundation’s impact, he highlights the Mary Black Foundation Rail Trail and the Middle Tyger Community Center as examples of how long-term investments can strengthen community health and connection.
As he begins his service, Bert shared:
“I look forward to getting to know my fellow trustees better and carrying on the visionary and collaborative legacy of so many respected members of our community who have come before me.”
