Today’s blog is written by PJ McEnroe, LMFT Executive Director of EMERGE.

Mental Health is getting some much needed attention in our society these days.  The impact of poor Mental Health is in front of us far too often. Whether due to celebrity suicides, friends and loved ones battling depression and anxiety, and not to mention our own stressors, we are becoming acutely aware of the importance of paying attention to Mental Health.  And we all have it;  Mental Health that is- just like we all have our physical health.  Some may be in great shape, others not as much.  Some look great on the outside but have some very real ailments inside.  Mental Health is no different.

Professional Mental Health care is too often seen as either a sign that things are really bad or, at the other extreme, seen as a luxury.  The reality is that we all can benefit from Mental Health care.  For some of us, self-awareness, reading up on a few topics regarding areas of our lives that can improve, and a mental health routine is what would be appropriate- similar to how stepping on a scale, learning about how to better our body’s health, and a little conscious eating and activity can change our physical health for the better.   For those that could use tools to do this and more for their Mental Health, EMERGE is pleased to be a resource in this community.

EMERGE Family Therapy Center & Teaching Clinic provides around 11,000 sessions of therapy annually to the community.  We serve children, adolescents, and adults individually, in couples, or as a family, with therapy tailored to each client’s needs and goals.  We make Mental Health care affordable for all with our sliding scale fee structure.  Because we are the clinical training site for student therapists coming through the Converse College Masters in Marriage & Family Therapy program, clients can be seen with us for as little as $6 per session.  We have around 30 clinicians from student therapists to fully licensed experts in their fields.  EMERGE may just be “what the Doctor ordered.”
