36th Annual MLK Day

Spartanburg will celebrate the 36th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Week through January 16, 2023. Going back to the first gathering around the flagpole at City Hall 36 years ago, Spartanburg’s residents have long recognized that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s mission lives on in the people of our community and their commitment to a more just and equitable world. Today, the importance of that mission is as evident as it has ever been. Below are some of the many ways that members of the community can get involved in the Unity Week Celebration!

Wednesday, January 11

11:30 AM: Beloved Community Luncheon (Contact khill@cityofspartanburg.org for information about tickets)

Thursday, January 12

6:00 PM: Art Reception at Mayfair Art Studios

Friday, January 13

ALL DAY: Kindness Day – Make an extra effort to be kind to someone!

5:30 PM: Teen Night & Swim-In at Dr. TK Gregg Community Center

Saturday, January 14

9:00 AM: Walk as One (Spartanburg County Administrative Building)

1:00-5:00 PM: Family Swim-In at Dr. TK Gregg Community Center

Monday, January 16

ALL DAY: United Way Day of Service (Register to volunteer here: www.uwpiedmont.org/mlkday)

6:30 PM: Unity Celebration at the District 7 Fine Arts Center
