Self-Care During COVID-19 Pandemic

The Mary Black Foundation is excited to launch a monthly Self-Care Day Retreat specifically for nonprofit and social service professionals, which will provide one work day away from the office with the sole intention of simply pausing to renew, rejuvenate, and refocus.

Cost of Caring

People who work in nonprofits and social service agencies face a range of unique challenges and stressors. Many carry the emotional burden of their work after the day is done. This is sometimes referred to as the ‘cost of caring’ and can lead to burnout and compassion fatigue. Amid a global pandemic that is disrupting our lives at work and at home, self-care seems to be needed today more than ever.

Self-Care Retreat

Fortunately, it is possible to make a difference in our physical and mental health with some intentional practices that can take just a few minutes each day. The Self-Care Day Retreat will expose participants to some of these practices including art, gentle movement and meditation, guided reflections, and quiet stillness. If you are new to the concept of self-care, you may be tempted to think of it as “pampering,” but it is much more than that. Self-care is about giving your mind and body what it needs. It is taking care of yourself, so that you can take care of others.

Register for an Upcoming Retreat

The Self-Care Day Retreats will be held at The Mary Black Foundation in the Lower Level Conference Center from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on the following dates:

  • July 31
  • August 28
  • September 25
  • October 30

The retreats are free, but space is very limited. Register HERE to reserve your space.

Caring Conversations

In addition to the full-day, in-person retreats, the Foundation is continuing its virtual Caring Conversations, which is a great opportunity to check in with your colleagues, share in some stress relief activities, and be reminded that we are here for each other. Caring Conversations will be held from 11:00 a.m. to noon on the following days:

  • August 14
  • September 11
  • October 9

Registration for the virtual Caring Conversations in required. You can find registration information HERE
