The Mary Black Foundation announced that it awarded $815,085 in grants to 13 nonprofit organizations serving Spartanburg County.
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of The Upstate was awarded $20,000 to expand the capacity of their mentoring program for high school aged youth.
- BirthMatters was awarded $87,000 to provide comprehensive teen pregnancy prevention programs using evidence-based programs with youth 13-20 years old.
- Bloom Upstate was awarded $20,000 to implement a youth development program and evidence- based teen pregnancy prevention program with high school aged females.
- City of Spartanburg Parks and Recreation Department was awarded $163,000 to provide youth residing in the Northside, Southside, and Highland communities with various positive youth development programs and evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention programming.
- New Image Through the Word Christian Ministries; No Filter was awarded $10,000 to replicate a healthy relationship evidence-based intervention to high school aged students.
- Positive Thinking was awarded $5,000 to provide a community health worker encounter to Spartanburg youth residing in juvenile facilities in South Carolina.
- Reach Out and Read- Carolinas was awarded $80,800 over two years to support the expansion of the Reach Out and Reach- Spartanburg County initiative to include the early literacy program in the offices of additional local primary care physicians.
- South Carolina Aquarium was awarded $8,400 to bring the Rovers Education Outreach Program for Early Learners STEM to preschool programs in Spartanburg County.
- Spartanburg Urban Mission CDC was awarded $30,000 to pilot the FoodShare SC program in Spartanburg County.
- Spartanburg School District 1 was awarded $27,000 for the implementation of evidence-based programs to middle school and high school students.
- Spartanburg School District 5 was awarded $50,000 for the implementation of evidence-based programs to middle school and high school students.
- Spartanburg School District 7 was awarded $100,500 for the implementation of a healthy relationship evidence-based program to high school students during afterschool programming, implementation of evidence-based programs to students at Whitlock Flexible Learning Center, and for an afterschool mentoring program at Carver Middle School.
- Upstate Family Resource Center was awarded $213,385 over three years to build capacity of PASOs, a program that connects Latino families with health, nutrition, parenting, and education services. PASOs will also help other organizations in the community become more culturally competent and effective in serving Latino families.
